Annual memo regarding FAS leave requests

Dear Faculty Members in the Faculty of Arts and Sciences,

I write to provide information on submitting requests for faculty leaves for academic year 2017-18 (or part thereof) or calendar year 2018 (full year).  All faculty members who wish to request a leave during that period will need to submit a completed Request for Faculty Leave form (linked at the foot of this message and also available online at ) to their department or program chair by Friday, November 18, 2016. Please note that faculty who are on phased retirement should also use this form to indicate in which term, or terms, work will be reduced.

Please be aware that members of the tenure-track faculty who have submitted leave proposals to their department chairs must also submit the Request for Faculty Leave form.  For your reference, the memorandum describing the procedures for non-tenured faculty leaves is posted online at .  As a reminder, University policies on leaves of absence for ladder faculty members are described in detail in the Faculty Handbook (online at  For questions about eligibility, faculty in the humanities may contact John Mangan (; faculty in the social sciences, sciences, and engineering may contact Robert Burger (

Department and program chairs, please note: once you have collected and reviewed all Request for Faculty Leave forms for your department, please give them to your department administrator for entry into the Workday system.  Then, send them to me by email to, by Wednesday, November 30, 2016
